Good Vibes Festival, Malaysia

Given the whole fiasco of one of the most sought out music festival that happened back in 2014. I would have thought Malaysia isn’t the place to host any music festivals anymore – last min cancellations and what not. But Good Vibes changed my mind completely.

I’ve been to Good Vibes festival twice now and I’ve really enjoyed both times. You may have heard about their unsuccessful story during their first year. But I’m glad they chose to listen to feedback and now hosts the biggest and probably the best outdoor festival in Malaysia.  If I do have one complaint would be the spacing for car parks. Nevertheless, they got most of the logistics right.

The event is held every year in the ranch in Gohtong Jaya, Genting Highlands. Located more than 1000 m above sea level, you’d expect some cool breeze with light sun during the event – makes the perfect summer! The feels, literally good vibes all the way. The greens, wooden crates lying on random spaces and drinks (oh yes, we do have drinks). The area is great with space, for you to sit around, to place your mats on. Not to mention, it includes a carefully designated booze area and mobile toilets not too far away.

Good Vibes has gained quite a reputation hosting some international artists and just to name a few – Temper Trap, Lorde, Two Door Cinema Club, Empire of the Sun, etc. It has also become a great platform to promote and introduce local artists, which I find lacking in the country. Some of my favourites include : Kyoto Protocol, Pastel Lite and Dangerdisko. Loving the local support here.

Like any outdoor music festival, you’d expect some really cool and interactive areas, great for passing your time or when you just want to take a break from all that dancing. Each year is different which adds to the element of surprise. Every once in a while, you’ll need a reason to just be in a space with a lot of random people, you’d come to Good Vibes. I wouldn’t really call this festival a rave per se. It’s really chilled, laid back and has hippie written all over it.

Overall it’s a great festival. A must-go if you’ve been living in Malaysia and have not been to a festival. A few tips to ensure that you have a great time:
